Apple Picking with a Family-Fun Twist
Last weekend I met some friends in their home town of Gardiner for some annual apple picking fun. There is something about bright blue skies and crisp fall air that makes living in the Hudson Valley feel like paradise. This family farm stands out because of the wonderful attractions they feature for both young and old. We arrived at 11AM and beat the crowds. To our delight, we found much more than apple picking.
- Pick your own pumpkins
- Pick your own apples
- Pony Rides
- Forest Trails
- Apple Launcher
- Corn Maze
Hurds Family Farm is a quick left off of Route 32 headed from Newburgh to New Paltz. They offer a wristband to kids (KIDS under 3 Are FREE) that gets them access to some really cool things including 'big apple bounce', giant slide and hay rides. There is also this gem mining station, nature trails and apple-baked everything. We went for the doughnuts.
If you don't have kids you can opt to purchase a plastic bag which you get to FILL to the BRIM with apples. We bought the $20 bag and came home with over 50 hand-picked apples.
They have lots of varieties ripe for picking NOW!
- Red Delicious
- Golden Delicious
- Honey Crisp
- Ida Red and more..
According to the brochure late October/early November seasonal apples include Fuji, Idared, Rome and RubyFrost.
At Christmas time, Hurd Family Farm offers a wide selection of Christmas Trees.
The Friday after Thanksgiving Santa is rumored to be making a skydive appearance at Hurds with treats for the kids.
