Local Brunch House Now Serving Delicious Flavors with an International Spin

Anna Frumes is a Nor-Cal girl who has made a home for herself and her two-and-a-half-year-old, Hunter, in Montgomery, New York. For one year she has been running the Borland House B & B on Clinton St. inviting guests from around the world to explore the quaint town and explore the 200-year-old estate. A Secret Garden in the backyard is one of many surprises Frumes has delivered in upgrades to the property since she took over last October.

This week she opened the doors of her beautiful, historically rich establishment to the general public with the kick-off of her Brunch House. Hours are 8am - 1pm Wednesday - Sunday. 

Borland House B & B 130 Clinton St. Montgomery, New York

Frumes, a farm-to-table fan, studied cooking in the south of France. She serves as proprietor and hostess at the B & B and doubles as the chef. She shops locally for earth-grown ingredients and her menu is self-described cozy comfort food with a healthy twist. She sources her free-range brown eggs from Hudson Valley Egg Company and uses clarified butter. Her dishes come with accents of delicacy like black lava salt and berbere (a Moroccan spice that has to be special ordered). This week she topped her home-made scones with a slice of the pome fruit, quince. Her style carries through with a bit of North African/middle eastern flare. It is a uniquely whimsical combination of texture and flavor which coupled with the historical details of the house makes for a once in a lifetime dining experience. 

Try the Breakfast Cobb Salad ($12): spinach w/apple cider vinaigrette topped with bacon, hard boiled egg, cheese crumble, tomato and sauteed mushrooms. Or Pearl Sugar Waffles ($11): night-risen Belgium waffles topped with vanilla cream compote. Recently a visiting guest with a background in nutrition commented that the chia pudding bowl was a healthy and adventurous take on thoughtful options ($8).

Anna wants laptop lovers to know they can stop in for a cup of coffee during brunch hours to enjoy some sips and wi-fi accommodations. 

Try the Hot Cocoa with Toasted Marshmallows ($4), Specialty Tea ($3) or skip to the sweets section for a Crema Catalana - Spanish creme brulee with cinnamon ($7).

Enjoy walking on the original hardwood yellow pine floors, admire hand-painted ceilings and ornate moldings while you sit and dine decadently and affordably. Say hi to Anna's parents Larry an Sylvia who are visiting from Spain.  In you're lucky two-year-old Hunter will be there to greet you with a smile.
