Recap: Margarita Showdown at Baja 328

by George Ruger

Thursday night, may 18th, on main street in Beacon, New York at Baja 328 Tequila Bar Southwest Grill, some of the area's restaurants participated in the Margarita Showdown to compete for the prize of Best Margarita.  Bartenders from the Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery, Orange County Choppers Cafe, Whistling Willie's American Grille, and the host Baja 328 took turns making their best recipe and giving out samples to the attendees.  Those who bought tickets for the event served as judges in the contest.  The event was exclusive - sales were capped at 100 tickets which made for an intimate experience.

The money raised at the charity event helps support Love Holds Life Children's Cancer Foundation.  The organization provides monetary aid for medical expenses not covered by insurance to children who are fighting cancer.  Volunteers for the charity staffed a table   Among the additional fundraisers were raffles for a 50/50 and a chance to win Yankees tickets.

Patty Kennett came to the event because of the advertisements on Facebook and thought the event would be interesting.  She likes Margaritas, although it has been a while since she had one.  She was in for a treat as she was celebrating her birthday with drinks in hand.

Abby from The Tilted Kilt handed out her creation, a Cinnamon Pineapple Margarita.  It was quite a refreshing way to start an event.  Whistling Willies contributed a Watermelon Jalopeno Margarita.  Tammie from Orange County Choppers Cafe whipped up a batch of  Pineapple, Mango, Lime, and Orange Tamaritas.  Kinda Kozy flew in a Dragonfruit Guava and Pineapple Margarita.  The home-team Baja 328 tossed out a Spicy Cucumber Margareta.  The Coyote's Tavern howled up a Blackberry Raspberry Margarita.  Watson spiced it up with a Jalopeno Cucumber Margarita.

The third place winner was Whistling Willies, followed by second place Coyote's Tavern.  The overall winner was the home team, Baja 328.

The night was topped off with a taco eating contest.

K104 was one of the official sponsors of the event.  Woodman and Diva among others were walking around and entertaining the crowd.  Woodman helped emcee the event.
