Hudson Valley 5th Grader Headed for Broadway
New Windsor fifth grader, Maddox Elliot Skigen, appearing on 42nd Street in US Premiere Musical Dream Street.
Ages 3+, 90 minutes, Pearl Theater, NYC -- August 12 - 16, 2015
NY, NY - Maddox Elliot, a fifth grader at Hudson Hills Academy, is performing at The Pearl Theatre on 42nd Street next month as “Oscar” in the brand new musical, Dream Street.
Dream Street, which comes straight from London (Book, Music, and Lyrics by Jo Noel-Hartley), follows the story of a group of kids auditioning for a big time West End producer, Sebastian Rickter, who is holding open auditions for a new West End musical called Dream Street and is looking for undiscovered talent. Despite coming from very different backgrounds, each kid has their own personal journey and challenges to overcome. Through determination and making great new friendships, they discover that dreams can come true.
In the role of Oscar, one of the kids auditioning that makes it through all the audition rounds to the very end, Maddox will be on stage for the entire performance. “Like we do in real life, Oscar has to act, sing and dance through his audition and call-backs” said Maddox, who regularly auditions under similar circumstances. “He gets to recite an awesome monologue during one of his auditions. And since the show is in London, we all have to speak and sing with strong British accents, which is something I really like to do!”

Maddox’s first professional performance in theatre (at the age of 7) was in Les Miserables as Gavroche at Surflight Theatre. Since then, he has appeared in several regional and New York City shows, musical benefits, commercials and feature films, including his current run in Oliver! at Forestburgh Playhouse in Forestburgh, NY.
Rehearsals formally start August 1st at Alvin Ailey Studios in New York City in August, prior to moving to the theater on 42nd Street. The show runs with double daily performances August 12-16th. “We have to be off-book before the first rehearsal….that means we need to know our lines and music when we walk in the door.” said Maddox, who is also an understudy for the role of Edward. “I’m used to that. Then we really only need to worry about learning blocking and choreography. A lot of us have worked together in benefits or other shows before, so we know each other and know what it takes to put up a show.”
The show is directed and produced by Laura Luc, founder & artistic director of Kids of the Arts (A Little Princess (Signature Theatre), Number the Stars (Davenport Theatre), And a Child Shall Lead (HERE), Pippi Longstocking (York Theater), Freckleface Strawberry (47th Street Theatre & Tour), Broadway Kids NYC (Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater), and more). Choreography will be by Stephanie Bissonnette, Alec Vargas and Boe Wank, under artistic direction of Janine Molinari of DanceMolinariNYC/LA .
“I love doing what I do” said the 9-year old actor, “It’s like a play date with my favorite people all doing my favorite things!”
A portion of the proceeds from every production will be donated to charities locally and around the world, inspiring young performers to give back through following their passion.
