Mayor Hopes Pancake Breakfast will Help Empower Newburgh's Youth
A letter from Mayor Judy Kennedy:
I am excited to announce that we are on the last leg of setting up a new Youth Empowerment Center. We should have the last legal step done tomorrow night. The Team NEEDS YOUR HELP TO GET STARTED! Although we are keeping it very Simple, we need some funds to get the door open. So the Team is hosting a Breakfast at Gully’s next Saturday, July 20th from 9:00 am – 11:30 am Adults are $25; Children under 12 are $15. All you can eat! #2 Washington St, down at the waterfront.
This Center is focused on providing some alternative opportunities to our hardest-to-reach youth and young adults. Those who are not going to other youth centers, etc. The first unusual idea is the late hours. The hours will be 3:00 pm to midnight. The goal is to provide a safe place for resolving conflicts, as well as focusing on 5 key areas which are 1) mentoring on Life skills, 2) Supporting education, 3) Providing Fun activities, 4) Helping to build a working relationship with the police, and 5) Connecting them with other service providers. The Team has been working hard to create a program centered on the key areas.
It is a focused effort to bring support and hope to this target population and help these youth discover new options and thereby reduce the Violence and Drug problems in this City. The team already has a small grant, but it pays on the reimbursement method. They need cash to get supplies and etc. Many people have also volunteered to teach and mentors in various areas of expertise. This is a COMMUNITY EFFORT AND OPPORTUNITY. Get involved and help the team move this idea forward! Pass the word….
Please RSVP. JOIN THE TEAM FOR BREAKFAST AND HELP THE CITY AND THE YOUTH AT THE SAME TIME!
