Take Your Dad to School Day (AKA the Best Day Ever)
They call it—Dad's take their children to work day—but it looks a lot like... well a picture is worth a thousand words they say. I just feel like the kids are showing Dad how it's done. Check out all the great photos from our very spectacular on-the-scene media relations specialist for Newburgh Enlarged City School District, Kerry Butrick.
Newbugh, NY: The Newburgh Enlarged City School District’s Horizons-on-the-Hudson School recently hosted Dads Take Your Child to School Day. According to Horizons on the Hudson Principal Lisa Buon, the school community realizes the importance of connecting families to the work that it does with students. In total, approximately 134 mentors attended in support of the initiative.
Classroom teachers hosted planned activities that the mentors could do with their student or with the entire class. Activities included reading a book to the class, leading a center activity, and doing a project with a group. In the school’s gymnasium, mentors were able to be physically active with the students, from climbing a cargo net to bowling and basketball. The goal of the program was to have parents involved in their students’ classes and see what a day is like in the life of their child.
Following the classroom events, mentors were invited to the lunchroom for a catered lunch. In addition, the Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center was on hand with educational brochures regarding how to stay healthy and offered free blood pressure screenings.
