Young Thespian Flexes his Inner Revolutionary
New Windsor / Cornwall 8 year old reprises the role of Gavroche in two productions of Les Miserables this summer.
Maddox Skigen first played Gavroche professionally at the age of 7 last summer at Surflight Theatre, Broadway by the Sea. When he learned that Les Mis was on the main stage for that summer, he turned to his mom and said "that's going to be me!" And found out he was cast in the role on the last day of second grade. He turned 8 at the beach and celebrated with a huge Les Miserables cake with his cast mates, which included several of the original Broadway cast. In November, not quite ready to give up the role, Maddox was cast again as Gavroche, this time with White Plains Performing Arts Center. "Closing night was New Year's Eve and after the show, we got to have a big party and watch the ball drop! It was AWESOME!"
And now, at almost 9, he will open at The Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck on July 18-August 17th, with back to back shows opening at the Theatre at West Shore Station in Newburgh on August 12 -24th. When asked if he ever gets bored with the role, Maddox replied “Never! It’s like a huge play date every time, where everyone does what I want!” Aside from making movies, building barricades and playing Minecraft with his 12 year old brother Hayden (also an actor known for several films and episodics) Maddox has performed in several regional and Off-Broadway productions, films, commercials and episodics and hopes to one day carry this role to Broadway.
Way to go Maddox!
