Leave a Legacy Gala King and Queen Announced

POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK: Youth Mission Outreach, Inc. (“YMO”) hosted the 2014 Junior Leave A Legacy Gala Awards held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Coppola’s Restaurant in Hyde Park, New York.  The Gala included a dinner, a red carpet appearance, a live auction and the announcement of the King and Queen.

The “Junior Leave A Legacy” Award was created to honor youth who are giving themselves and thereby changing the lives of others.  The Award recipients were young individuals whose commitment to giving is evidenced through their consistent willingness to help and volunteer.  This year, our 2014 Award recipients are Shyhiem James and Treasure Mattis, both of Poughkeepsie, NY. The recipients have demonstrated leadership qualities in the community and among their peers and have expressed a great vision in their nomination essay:  “How Would You Leave a Legacy?” Upon receiving his award, Shyhiem James shared a nugget of wisdom and encouragement to the other youth, “Together we can change the world. After this day I want you to lead harder”.

A special appearance was made by Caesar Bell, a YMO veteran who is now currently serving in Air Force Reserves and graduating from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.  Mr. Bell, who had a major life change through his involvement with Youth Mission Outreach, shared about his life’s challenges and the support he received from the organization.

This event was sponsored by local residents of Dutchess County and the Youth Mission Outreach Junior Leaders, who held several fundraisers to raise money to support youth who wished to attend but were not able to pay for their ticket.  Youth Mission Outreach would like to thank their sponsors, Bridgeway Federal Credit Union and Poughkeepsie Nissan for their continued support of YMO’s programs.

YMO is a non denominational, not for profit organization serving the needs of Poughkeepsie youth since 1992.
