Spring is Blooming at St Thomas Episcopal Church

Along with St. Thomas’ annual services for Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, both at 11:30am, St. Thomas will be opening up a community garden.

The community garden will provide a place for both parishioners and the people of the community to have an organic secondary food source, or a flower bed.

The first test bed was built and maintained by St Thomas’s Sunday School late in the growing season last year.

“The plants were happy and healthy throughout the summer and ongoing into the fall with low maintenance. The children barely even had to water their plants once a week,” said Kara Smith, Senior Warden and Sunday School Teacher, “last year, their determination to make their garden plot a success taught them team work, how to care for the Lord’s creation, increased fellowship among the students, and was a beautiful success.”

The Sunday School Students began an indoor planting for their garden plot late this winter. Produce from the garden will be used for a pot luck lunch for other parish members, and any excess produce will be sent to the surrounding community food pantries for those in need, as an outreach project.

An opening ceremony for the St Thomas Community Garden at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in New Windsor will take place on April 12th at Noon. Plots will be available for rent. Please come and help celebrate with prayer and light refreshments.

Rental Information:

The community garden will be open to individuals, families, and community groups for $30 per plot for the entire growing season of 2014, from April 12 through Mid-November. Each plot is a 6 foot by 4 foot in-ground plot, with easy access to the plot, and water source available.

Spring is just beginning, and there are more events occurring at St. Thomas this month.
