All-Star Lawyer Shares his Secrets of Career Success

Newburgh, NY - George M. Levy, a senior Trial Partner with Finkelstein & Partners LLC, one of New York State's largest personal injury law firms, recently celebrated his 30th anniversary with the firm. Levy, who became a partner at Finkelstein & Partners in 1987 has handled some of the firm's most significant cases, including the Coldenham Elementary School wall collapse which resulted in the death of several children and left others seriously injured.

As a Trial Attorney, Levy has handled numerous multi-million dollar cases through jury verdicts or settlements. His work has been recognized with a BV Distinguished Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the legal world's preeminent peer review rating system.

Levy has served as president of the Newburgh Bar Association and was recognized by the Orange County Bar Association for his pro bono work over the years. His areas of practice include personal injury, product liability, and wrongful death cases. He is admitted to New York State, United States Federal District Courts, Northern, Eastern, and Southern District Courts, and the United States Supreme Courts. Levy received his law degree from New York Law School. He served as an Assistant Attorney General for New York State for six years before joining the firm.

A Newburgh resident, Levy is also the "voice" of Finkelstein & Partners providing the voice over talent for the firm's radio and television commercials. He's also a talented magician who enjoys entertaining his grandchildren with his sleight of hand.

In a phone interview with Levy, we asked him about his secret to success. He answered, "I guess I was just lucky that what I ended up doing is something I enjoy doing so much! I tell my kids, 'get up everyday and enjoy what you do and you won’t have a problem in life.' "

And, it's not all work and no play for the star attorney who got his start as Assistant Attorney General for New York State before joining the Newburgh-based firm. When asked how he maintains a work/life balance he said, "I have music and magic and I enjoy golf." Not to mention two beautiful grandchildren. He continued, "It is definitely a balance of working hard and enjoying your time with your family."

His advice for young lawyers? 6 years in Syracuse working as the Assistant Attorney General was has fast-track into the court room. According to Levy, in the private sector you can work for years in an office before you get to try a case.
