Can They Do It?! The NFA Crew Team Gears up for Final Fundraiser

The NFA Crew Team is preparing for it's final fundraiser in pursuit of a $60,000 goal that would keep the team - the only non-school funded sport- alive during the 2012- 2013 school year. We've been sharing some of their efforts with you on the site - everything from bake sales to coin drops through the fall... then Sandy threw the docks for a loop but the team pulled together to clean up a ton of debris with some help from some wonderful friends. At last check they were near the 45k mark... Will the NFA Crew team row on?!

NY – Friends of Newburgh Crew, Inc., the 501(c)(3) formed to assist with Community Funding for the NFA Varsity Crew Team, will hold a Holiday Buffet, small arts auction, gingerbread house raffle and more at the River Grill on Saturday, December 15, from 12 pm to 3 pm.   Guests include Senator and Mrs. Larkin, Mayor Judith Kennedy, Chief Ferrara, Chief Vatter and his wife, Board of Ed president Dawn Fucheck, and other local luminaries and supporters of the Crew Team.

During the event, Dr. Geoffrey Brackett, Executive Vice President of Marist College, will serve as Master of Ceremonies, along with his wife Danyelle Means, an independent contractor with Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian.  The couple have a son on the NFA Varsity Crew Team.  They will announce whether the organization has met their goal of raising sufficient funds to maintain Crew at the same level as prior years.  The Crew Team  has been funded by the very generous community of Newburgh and its environs over the past several months.

“The rowers and their parents have been working tirelessly to raise funds while simultaneously training for the upcoming season,” said Team Mom Juliana LoBiondo, Co-Chair for the event.  “The purpose of this event is twofold: to announce the results of our fundraising efforts, and to give back to those who have supported our team.  That is why a portion of the event, from 3 pm to 4 pm, will be free, with coffee and cookies for all, we simply ask that anyone who wishes to attend the free event get their name on the guest list.” During the event, the winning  “Mega Raffle Ticket,” will be drawn. Thousands of raffle tickets have been sold throughout the area, and one lucky first prize winner will receive a 51” Plasma TV, with a second prize winner to take home an Apple Ipad. For information on the buffet / art auction, for which tickets are $50.00 each, or for information on the free coffee and cookies event, contact Juliana LoBiondo at  or (845) 569-7600.
