Starrs Collide Clothing
There is a buzz on the East Side as the Newburgh restoration efforts take deliberate shape on a very up-and-coming Liberty Street. One of the unassuming havens perched directly across from Washington’s Headquarters is another type of headquarters withstanding the tradition of time and change. Mrs. Max Boutique (113 Liberty St) carries a line of locally made clothes, jewelry and trinkets. With 30 years invested, many of the area’s dancers know it was their one-and-only destination for all things performance and dance. In fact, Leetha was for many years, a beloved consultant for NFA’s outstanding musicals. The seamstress “plays” in her adjoined shop space behind the curtain like a scene out of Oz and offers her hand at tailoring and custom design as well. She is joined by her ambitious daughter, Holly - who you may already know as the editor of the highly acclaimed alternative music fanzine ‘Outsider Magazine’.
Mrs. Max Boutique proudly carries several locally founded clothing lines – making the store a collective for underground talent. For all of these reasons, Holly and Leetha along with Deshawn Jackson (Starrs Collide) have been hard at work planning the Second Annual Tee-Party. If you haven’t been, expect a gallivant down the runway with some show-stopping area talent – both models and designers.
The Tee-Party is great for a few reasons. The proceeds will benefit the host location, The Rail Road Playhouse. The theatre is currently in need of a speaker system and some general funding. Featured clothing lines - Solo Mfg, Wherehouse Wearables, Business as Usual (BAU), Twister Tailors, KYD Clothing, and Regulation Eight along with Starrs Collide and Outsider Threads are an eclectic collection of emerging and veteran designers pulled from the local scene. The Tee-Party twist will be that the show is designed with originality in mind. In addition to showcasing their lines, each designer will promote their personality with an individually-themed-presentation down the runway. The party will focus on atmosphere, versus the traditional runway format and is scheduled to be followed by a meet-and-greet with all of the designers and models.
A few additional perks ( as if you needed them!) silent auction will feature some local artists (Will Teran and Rodni Hardison have already contributed pieces). After you fill up on some refreshments, take in the show and like what you see - hit the buy button and go home with your fav threads. Then, shake hands with the designers and tell them how awesome they are.
All of this for $12!
