Local Pop Star Donates his Baby Grand to Local Venue
BETHEL, NY – Multi platinum singer-song writer Gavin DeGraw has donated his first baby grand piano to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. The piano will be housed in the recently unveiled Conservatory at Bethel Woods that will be home to a variety of children and young adult educational and performing arts programs.
DeGraw, a Sullivan County native, born and raised in South Fallsburg, New York bought himself the J Strauss and Son baby grand piano with the money he received from his first publishing deal with Warner Chappell. It was used in his East Village New York apartment on 2nd Ave and 1st Street where he wrote and refined many of the songs on CHARIOT, his first album. When Gavin began touring steadily the piano was relocated to his parents’ home in upstate New York where it remained the centerpiece during holidays. Gavin even had the band upstate for auditions around this piano.
Chief Executive Officer Darlene Fedun explains, “It is an honor for us to have Gavin’s piano now in our Conservatory. We hope that it inspires children and young adults the same way that it inspired Gavin in his own songwriting. ”
