NFA Crew Team Putting in the Time and Pulling Hard for Fundraising Dollars
Newburgh, NY – On Saturday, October 13, 2012, Barton Birks Chevrolet will be hosting the First Annual Making Strides Family Fun Day, from 10 am – 4 pm @the Auto Park in Newburgh. They will be joined by the Saturday Night Cruisers Car Club and NFA Crew. There will be a display of street rods, trucks, motorcycles, classic cars and prizes from the Car Club.
The NFA Varsity Crew Team is heading to Barton Birks to raise money for a Teammate’s mother’s cancer treatment, as well as for their 2012-2013 season, and to teach children in the community to row. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month..
Barton Birks will have many free events including: face painting, a tumble bus, and music. There will also be food, vendors, raffles, and lots of activities for families. All proceeds raised by Barton Birks will benefit “Making Strides for Breast Cancer.”
“Many of us, including my family, have been touched in some way by cancer” said NFA Crew’s Head Coach Ed Kennedy, “we want to raise money for our season, but even more than that, we want to kick to the curb this dreaded disease.”
In other NFA crew News : The Santiago Sisters - Samantha and Stephanie - were among the many rowers who worked over the weekend to ready the baskets for the Silent Auction to be held at Oktoberfest, to benefit the NFA Varsity Crew Team. Samantha, a freshman, and her brother Vic Santiago, a junior, are members of the NFA Varsity Crew Team. Older sister Stephanie studies photography at St. Rose University, and also volunteers as the Team Photographer.

"This is our big fundraiser, and we hope people will come out and support the team," said Team Mom Juliana LoBiondo. "We have over $5,000.00 worth of donated merchandise for the Silent Auction - from Jets and Army Football tickets, to spa packages, Hudson River cruises, restaurant gift cards and original artwork. We also have really great baskets, from Wine and Liquor to Chocolate to Gourmet Treats, we have a terrific selection. We are so grateful to the community and businesses that have donated. The kids have worked really hard on this, it's going to be lots of fun."
Tickets to Oktoberfest are $25.00 in advance, $30.00 at the door, the event is October 11, from 6 - 10 pm, there will be a selection of German food by Master Chef Pamela Resch, German music from Lenny Feldman, raffles, a 50/50, and a cash bar.
100% of net proceeds goes to fund the 2012-2013 season of the NFA Crew Team, the only 100% community funded Varsity team at NFA.
