NFA Varsity Crew Team Half-Way to Fundraising Victory

ooooooh we're half way there/ oooooooh livin' on a prayer.. Newburgh Crew Wants to See You at the Oktoberfest Fundraiser at Pamela's ...

Newburgh, NY - The NFA Varsity Crew Team - after losing public funding due to cuts in the 2012-2013 Newburgh Enlarged City School District Budget - is determined to put their team back on the river in the Spring through a series of fundraising efforts. Community participation is being requested at the first major event named “Oktoberfest at Pamela’s on the Hudson,” on October 11, 2012, starting at 6 pm.

“The kids are very excited about this event,” said NFA Head Coach Kennedy.  “They have been working harder than you can imagine to raise funds to save their team.  Every single weekend since we were re-instated on the condition we fund ourselves, which was June 26, 2012, these kids have been out selling raffle tickets, and standing in front of Dunkin Donuts and Wal Mart for coin drops. The parents have formed a 501(c )(3), ‘Friends of Newburgh Crew, Inc.’ to fund the crew team.  These parents are just as motivated as the kids to save the team and they have devoted themselves to making sure Crew has another season; it is one of the most inspiring things I have ever witnessed.”

Friends of Newburgh Crew says it is about half-way to its goal of raising $60,000.00 to have a 2012-2013 season.  They have until January 2013 to raise the money for their team.

“Oktoberfest is our first attempt at a large-scale fundraiser,” said Team Mom Juliana LoBiondo.  “The kids are looking forward to it, helping to make baskets and decorations.  We will have a wonderful assortment of German appetizers from Pamela’s, German music from German Accordianist Lenny Feldman – who will be in Lederhosen -- and a really nice Silent Auction.  We have everything from Golf foursomes to Army Football tickets, to wine and spa baskets for the Silent Auction.  There will be a cash bar as well and, of course, it’s all to benefit the Crew Team.  It starts at 6 pm and goes until closing, this is not a sit down dinner, it will be relaxed and fun.”

The team is looking for donations of gift certificates or merchandise for the Silent Auction, and is also selling ad space in its Event Journal. Tickets to Oktoberfest are $25.00 in advance and $30.00 at the door.  Mail your check, made payable to “Friends of Newburgh Crew, Inc.” to PMB 305, 56 North Plank Road, Newburgh, NY.
