Theater Company Seeks Original Submissions for Festival


Newburgh, NY - Hatmaker’s Attic Productions, Inc. is seeking submissions of original plays from the Newburgh area for 2015’s Newburgh Illuminated festival. The selected play will receive a staged production in June at Newburgh’s historic venue, The Lobby at The Ritz. This opportunity is intended to foster and support artistic culture in the Newburgh area. Pieces pertaining to the theme “Celebrating Newburgh” are strongly encouraged. There is no application form or entry fee. Manuscripts can be submitted electronically to hatmakersattic@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is April 1st, 2015.

Submissions must be original, unpublished full-length plays written in English. Plays that have been professionally-produced or published are ineligible. Plays that have had a workshop, reading, or nonprofessional production will be considered. Manuscripts should include a title page, brief biography of the playwright, contact information, a brief synopsis of the play, a list of characters, and a breakdown of set requirements and scene locations.

Newburgh Illuminated is an annual festival of arts, culture, and heritage in the city of Newburgh. Hatmaker’s Attic Productions, Inc. is a Hudson Valley-based nonprofit community theater organization. Founded by local brothers Edward and William Gibbons-Brown, Hatmaker’s Attic is dedicated to building a positive and safe creative environment where anyone can find a home in art. Hatmaker’s Attic produces dynamic, passionate theater including such notable productions as A FEW GOOD MEN at the Rhinebeck CENTER for Performing Arts, ECHOES OF IRELAND, by local playwright Brian C. Petti, and LUCY, ILLUMINATED, which received a world premiere production as part of last year’s Newburgh Illuminated festival in collaboration with Safe Harbors of the Hudson.

Safe Harbors of the Hudson owns and operates the Cornerstone Residence, the Ann Street Gallery and the Lobby at the Ritz. The mission of Safe Harbors of the Hudson Ritz Theater is to create a vibrant professional performing arts venue in the city of Newburgh that revitalizes the local economy, enriches the education of youth and enhances community pride.
