The Winners Circle : Young Artist Designs will be Featured at Truck/Aviation Expo

Pine Bush 5th Grader Wins United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region Touch-A-Truck/Aviation Expo Logo Design Contest, Montgomery 5th grader takes 2nd place, Warwick 8th grader wins 3rd place. PR: United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region unveiled the winning logos chosen from 165 design entries submitted by children ages 3 to 17 attending schools in Orange and Dutchess counties for its Touch-A-Truck/Aviation Expo event. The logos were presented April 2 at the Orange County Airport in Montgomery.  Winning artwork will be on display at the Touch-a-Truck/Aviation Expo on June 3rd - a fundraiser to benefit United Way. Touch-A-Truck/Aviation Expo will feature more than 50 vehicles such as cherry pickers, concrete mixers, fire trucks, emergency vehicles and trucks of all types. The Orange County Pilots Association’s Aviation Expo will include helicopters, fighter jets, airplanes and special sky diving demonstrations. More than 3,000 people are expected to attend this year’s fundraiser which raises funds for United Way.

Jonathan Dillon, a 5th grade student at Pine Bush BOCES Satellite, took first place.

The 10-year-old Pine Bush resident’s logo was unveiled at a presentation Monday at the Orange County Airport in Montgomery, the site of the fundraiser. His logo depicts the spirit of the event by including drawings of a helicopter, fire truck, back hoe and dump truck. It will be used as the family-friendly event’s logo and all promotional activities including t-shirts and programs.

 Second place : Christian Brown of Montgomery, an 8th grader at Crispell Middle School.

Third place : Warwick 5th grader Daniel Bilezikian, a student at Sanfordville Elementary School.

Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana hosted the Monday unveiling and helped hand out the awards to the three winners along with United Way President and CEO Don Hammond. Also on hand to congratulate the winners were Touch-A-Truck committee member Sandy Brownsey and Orange County Pilots Association Treasurer Mike Monaco. In addition, two logo design entries received honorable mentions. The young artists are: Lee Bush of Middletown, an 11th grade student at Goshen High School, and Henry Litsky of Wappingers Falls, a 5th grader at Fishkill Plains Elementary School in Dutchess County. Both students were 2011 logo contest winners. Event sponsors are IBM Corp.; 8 Hats High Animation & Production; Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp.; Vassar Brothers Medical Center; Vanacore, DeBenedictus, DiGovanni & Weddell; Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union; Marshall & Sterling Insurance; and H.O. Penn Machinery Company Inc. Touch-A-Truck/Aviation Expo tickets are $6 per person, kids 3 and under enter free. All proceeds stay local and are used by United Way to support programs that make a difference in people’s lives in the community.
